Hurricane Ruin

This is a small ruin is located within the city limits of Hurricane, Utah on a terrace above the Virgin river. These pictures were taken in 1979 with a Polaroid square shooter camera. The Virgin Anasazi who lived in the Southwest corner of Utah and on the Arizona Strip were chiefly farmers who tilled the moist river banks and stream beds of this desert area at the edge of the Colorado Plateau. They lived in pit houses such as the one depicted in these photos. They also used above ground storage rooms which are shown behind the fire pit in the Plaza where much of the people's social lives took place during cooking, story telling, tool repair and minor rituals to insure the peoples well-being.
