The bird bone Needles (above left)
were made using split wing or leg bones that were then ground to a point
and each has a small hole (eye) drilled near the base for vegetable fiber thread
(cotton, etc.) to pass thru. The needles and thread were used to create cord
nets and weave and/or sew cloth and/or hides for clothing and storage bags. At times these
nets or fabrics were wrapped around non-dried (green ware) pots and impressed
into the outer surface using a paddle. The cloth or net was then removed leaving
an exact impression of the weave on the outside of the pot (above right).
