 Negative Painted shards

 

 

The two pots at the top of the page were form the Turpin site all other shards are from Bintz site unless otherwise noted. The pot on the left is drilled so it could be suspended from the ceiling or wall and was found with a child burial. The pot on the top right has strap handles and is incised with a curvilinear design.

 

Second Row left: A rim shard that is polished cord marked (paddled with a cord wrapped paddle while still wet and then rubbed with a smooth stone when dry).

Second Row center: A flared rim shard with a strap handle attached and has an angular incised neck.

Second Row right: Flared rim shard with an angular incised design.

 

Third Row left: Salt pan rim. Salt pans were relatively flat and thick and were used to evaporate river water to get salt.

Third Row center: Rim Shard with a guilloche (both angular and curvilinear) incised design, the strap handle is cord marked and the shard below the handle is cord marked.

Third Row right: This rim shard has a guilloche design incised on it.

 

Bottom Row: These are negative painted (the pot was slipped with a wax design drawn on it which fires a different color) shards. The shard on the right is from the Turpin site and the others are from the Bintz site.
